The Weekend and What Went Down!

So this weekend was a pretty eventful one for two reasons.  One, I got to visit a wildlife reserve, which meant MOAR CUDDLING WITH AWESOME AUSSIE CREATURES!  And two, I got to work my first, and sadly, only Bulldogs game at ANZ Stadium.
At the wildlife reserve, we got to see and pet more of the native fauna, such as emus, kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas, wombats, snake named Neil, and a cockatoo named Joe.  They were all awesomely friendly creatures who were more than happy to get pet (except the Koala, apparently getting handled stressed them the f*** out, who knew?).  Of note was an emu named "Happy Feet", who due to being raised by humans, thought he was a human and therefore was more happy to hang around us and let him pet us (as well as try to steal our food).  During our stay at the reserve we got to do two other cool things, one which was eat termites out of a tree (note to self:  termites taste like cardboard with vinegar), and the other was throwing a boomerang.  Unfortunately, when it came to throwing the boomerang, I accidentally threw mine into a tree :(.
On Sunday, I traveled to ANZ Stadium at Olympic Park to work the Bulldogs playoff game.  Now, don't get me wrong, this was awesome, except for the part where I had to pay an extra $$ for the train ticket there since my work wouldn't cover me, still, an awesome experience.  I mostly worked on giving away membership stuff and selling badges of players, which was pretty boring.  Once the game started, I went down to the field to help with the halftime promotion, which involved a sumo suit, a tackling dummy, and a rugby ball.  I have to say, getting to run on the field to help WAS.  TOTALLY.  AWESOME!  The only other gripe I had was that the food at ANZ cost more than food at Fenway Park, and that's saying something, although the meat pie they had was pretty good.  Sadly, the Bulldogs lost 22-6 to the Newcastle Knights.
All in all, it was a fun weekend, and if this is what life in Sydney is like, let me stay here!  This is Derpy Down Under saying, if you have some spare $$, PLEASE SEND IT!  Cause shit down here is more expensive than movie theater popcorn!

Late for work

So today, I woke up feeling refreshed and ready for work, and surprisingly got everything I needed to get done done earlier than usual.  I was feeling good at my accomplishment, until I noticed that it was an hour later than I thought.  Apparently, I had set my alarm to my summer internship, which started at 10 am, instead of my current internship, which starts at 9 am... and I had just gotten everything done at 8:45 am... and still had an hour to get to work.  *cue facepalm*

On Classes and Internships

As part of my study abroad program, I have to undertake an internship at a local Australian company.  Fortunately for me, they put me in the perfect program, as an intern for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, a professional rugby league team for the National Rugby League, or NRL (think of it as the equivalent to the NFL).  The people there are helpful and friendly, plus, it's only an hour bus+train ride away.  While there I also got to meet Terry Lamb, who is a big legend with the Bulldogs and considered one of their best players of all time (so it was like meeting a US sport legend similar to John Havlicek or Dwight Evans).
In terms of classes, oh god are they bloody boring, but at least the professors seem nice, which is a plus.  Thursdays though, oh god, Thursdays, I'm spending pretty much 8 hours in the same goddamn classroom; it's like a cleaner version of hell.  Oh well, at least it's only once a week.
As a heads up, this weekend I'm heading up to Bondi Beach for a kite festival (and maybe some swimming :D ), as well taking a walking tour of Sydney proper.  So keep a lookout for some sweet photos!  Till next time, this is Derpy Down Under saying to stay upright at all times!
